Janet Love, MSSW, MBA, LPC, NCC
Janet Love's counseling practice is focused on assisting youth in ability minorities (with cognitive, emotional and/ or physical "disabilities") with self-esteem, social functioning and other personal growth needs. Problems presented by clients include; crisis resolution, self-acceptance, social skills development, stress management, and career exploration. Services provided include individual and family therapy, group therapy, play therapy, and parenting skills training.
She selects counseling methods on an individual basis to match clients’ specific needs. They often include supportive listening, cognitive-behavioral approaches, solution-focused techniques, and play therapy.
Janet has worked with individuals in ability minorities in a variety of agency settings. Youth services provided include crisis intervention, individual and family counseling, parenting skills training, play therapy and drug abuse treatment. Adult services have included individual counseling, family counseling, and drug abuse treatment.
She has also provided Career Services and Job Training for people with "disabilities" both as an agency employee, and a contractor with Texas Rehabilitation Commission (now the State Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services). Individuals served have presented with a wide variety diagnoses including mild to moderate mental retardation, other learning differences, emotional conditions and physical limitations.
As a part of services provided to these clients, Janet consulted with managers in a wide range of business settings. Services included assistance with creating job descriptions, redesigning jobs after employee injury, determining appropriate accommodations and developing skills for training employees with special needs.
Professional Development programs have been delivered for the Texas Elementary School Counseling Association, Tarleton State University Continuing Education Department, the Cross Timbers Counseling Association, and the Cross Timbers Management Association. Current professional Associations include the National Association of Social Workers, the Texas Counseling Association, and The American Psychological Association.
Janet earned the Master of Science in Social Work, concentrated in Clinical Practice, and the Master of Business Administration, concentrated in Human Resources in a dual program of graduate study at the University of Texas at Arlington. She is licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors, and certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors. In addition, she holds a Certificate in Employment Services for People with Disabilities from the University of North Texas.
